An Examination of Cannabis Treating Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia has been afflicting a number of people throughout the years. However, as researchers look into the benefits of cannabis, they’ve found that it helps to treat a number of different ailments, including Fibromyalgia. It helps to relieve the chronic pain that is common with the disorder. In fact, cannabis treating fibromyalgia has been shown in studies to be a real possibility.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder most well-known for its symptom of widespread pain throughout the musculoskeletal part of the body. This dealing with fibromyalgia describe it as a dull pain or ache that spreads over both sides of the body. Fibromyalgia occurs both above and below the waistline. 

It also comes along with a pair of symptoms, specifically fatigue and cognitive impairments. Fibromyalgia also commonly comes alongside other conditions, like sleep apnea, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, or chronic fatigue syndrome. At this time, there is no cure for this condition. As such, patient need to seek treatment for the symptoms.

Studies

Recently, researchers performed a study in Milan, Italy. They performed this study to examine if cannabis’s viability as treatment for the symptoms of this disease. They interviewed sixty-six subjects over the course of six months. Women, those most commonly affect, were 90% of the sufferers. About half of the subjects were currently taking at least two drugs to handle the symptoms.

In the study, the researchers took flowers and made them into tinctures. Twice a day, the subjects took a dosage of the tinctures for six months. Researchers then collected the results of these doses to see if there was any improvement of their symptoms.

By the end of the study, about half of the subjects reported enough of an improvement in their pain that they stopped taking painkillers.

Another group of researchers performed a different study a couple of years ago. They performed this study to see if there was a connection between the different types of cannabis used as a treatment for the symptoms of the disorder. The study showed that those with THC or CBD were very effective in helping to treat the chronic pain.

Help May Be On the Way

With this and other disorders affecting many people throughout the world, it is understandable to search for new methods in order to treat them. The studies showed cannabis can help with many of the symptoms. However, researchers will need to continue to study it in order to prove it. As such, it may be a while before cannabis treating fibromyalgia is a commonality.
