Comparing Cannabinoids Delta 8 to Delta 10

Cannabinoids evoke various effects in the human body. From anti-inflammation properties to sleep aids, different cannabinoids help with different things. For example, CBD is more for anti-inflammation concerns. Meanwhile, CBN offers better sleep with its more sedative properties.

But what about other cannabinoids, especially ones with THC in them? There are two newer THC based cannabinoids available to the general public. They are Delta 8 and Delta 10 and they create similar and different effects in consumers. Let’s break them down.

Delta 8

This cannabinoid has changed the hemp industry completely. It became legal under the Farm Bill of 2018. The definition of hemp was separated from the definition of marijuana. The Farm Bill defines hemp as:

“The term ‘hemp’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

Delta 8 is structurally different from THC, or Delta 9, which is the main psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana. The difference is what allows Delta 8 to naturally contain no more than 0.3 percent of Delta 9 in it, making it legal to the general public.

Even though there are Sativa and Indica dominant strains of Delta 8, many of the effects caused by this cannabinoid are more relaxing and sedative. Consumers consider it a preferred cannabinoid because they say it can calm the body and mind.

Delta 10

Sitting opposite of Delta 8 on the spectrum scale is Delta 10. It also has a molecular structure change that naturally makes Delta 10 contain no more than 0.3 percent of Delta 9. This makes the cannabinoid legal on the federal level.

It’s not as readily available as Delta 8, but those who have had the opportunity to try it say that Delta 10 is much more energizing and motivating than Delta 8. It’s definitely a cannabinoid they prefer to use during the day. The best comparison is that Delta 10 is definitely more sativa like in general. It offers a more energizing experience overall than Delta 8. At this time, Delta 10 is still very new and difficult to come by from reputable, tested, sources.

Both cannabinoids offer unique experiences and are legal in most states. Delta 8 tends to be more sedative compared to the active Delta 10, but each experience is unique to the person.
