Exploring the Cannabinoid CBG

Cannabis sativa, commonly known as cannabis, is a versatile and sturdy plant used by humans for hundreds of years. Many people know about the psychoactive properties that cannabis offers it’s consumers. This cones from the cannabinoid called Delta 9 and can be very potent when consumed. Unfortunately, Delta 9 can also cause increased paranoia and anxiety, which does bring down the user from their euphoria.

But Delta 9 isn’t the only cannabinoid within the cannabis plant. In fact, over 100 different types of cannabinoids are found in the stem. One such cannabinoid is CBG. It has different properties than Delta 9 and in some research studies it has some medicinal properties.

Cannabigerol

CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa. It’s shown to have positive effects on the human body. While there’s not a lot of studies, the few completed studies have been on mice. One study showed when mice got CBG while they showed IBD (irritable bowel disease) symptoms, inflammation reduced in the intestines. IBD is currently incurable and can be incredibly painful for those who suffer from it.

Having a compound that can reduce inflammation could be helpful in the future. CBG could help ease any pain or complications associated with IBD. Unfortunately only mice with IBD received studies. So it will be a while for any human studies to begin. Further down the road would trial medicine before it becomes readily available. CBG happens naturally within the cannabis plant. This means it can produced safely in a lab like many other cannabinoids. This is one cannabinoid to keep an eye on in the future.

Effects

CBG is a positive cannabinoid with some medicinal benefits as shown in scientific studies. But how does it affect people who just take it to take it? CBG is primarily an anti-inflammatory cannabinoid. Consumers won’t experience a high like they do when consuming products that contain Delta 9. That doesn’t mean CBG can’t be added to other cannabinoids for a more euphoric feeling. This theory is the entourage theory, but it doesn’t have much research backing up its potential benefits or lack there of.

Remember scientists are still understanding CBG and the positive effects it has on the body. Consult your doctor before taking any product you haven’t taken before and use as directed.
